- Ongoing quality two-way communications between parents and teachers will be provided through the regular use of parent conferences, weekly reports from classroom teachers, e-mail and phone calls, and a monthly school newsletter from PTA and the Principal. If special communication needs are identified, every reasonable attempt will be made to direct them to appropriate resources. We have a Teacher-Administrator-Student Intervention Team, Student Support, and a Child Study Team to discuss student progress, intervention, and strengths and weaknesses with parents. We utilize administrator/parent conferences as necessary. We will continue to work towards improving communication between teacher-administrator-PTA.
- Parents will be provided with the results of their child’s performance as directed by VBCPS. Methods will include report cards, progress reports, calls from teachers, and graded papers sent home. The curriculum can be accessed by all parents on the VBSchools.com website and at the building site.
- Our Title I full-time School Social Worker will provide families with community resources to address the needs of our families. Our School Social Worker will work to ensure our students have good attendance and will work to address any environmental barriers to education.
- The School Planning Council consisting of teachers, parents, partners in education, and local business owners develops the Title I Compact and the Title I Parent Involvement Policy for Holland Elementary. Both documents are distributed to 100% of families.
- All parents are invited to participate in the district wide Title I Parent Review Committee. The division’s parent involvement policy can be found on the VBSchools.com website. All parent comments regarding the policy will be forwarded to the Title I district office.
- Results of assessment devices administered by the division to measure student performance (SOL/Stanford 10) will be provided to parents in writing, including a description of what the data shows. Additionally, classroom assessment data will be presented to parents during parent/teacher conferences. During these conferences the assessment data will be compared with the student’s work performance.
The above activities are coordinated with the PTA and Community Involvement, School Planning Council, outreach clubs and projects, parent volunteers, grade levels, and the school action teams.
The effectiveness of our policy to build strong parental involvement will be measured through parent surveys and evaluation forms for each activity. The collected data will also be used to evaluate the effectiveness of activities and solicit suggestions for continuous improvement. The policy will be amended annually based on school needs.
